Aedín Cassidy is Chair in Nutrition & Preventive Medicine and Director for Interdisciplinary Research in the Global Institute for Food Security at Queen’s University Belfast.
Her main research focus is on understanding the impact of plant-based diets and key constituents in plants (including flavonoids) on cardiometabolic health with a current interest in the role of metabolism and the microbiome.
She was awarded the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award in 2013 and has served on various committees and expert panels including RAE2008, REF2014 and REF2021 sub-panel 3. She is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, the Society for Biology and the Royal Society of Chemistry. She is a visiting professor at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health.
